Jeff Deitering was born and raised in rural Iowa. Jeff graduated with 39 classmates from West Harrison Community Schools and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University. Jeff worked for over 33 years as a civil engineer in the aviation industry, primarily in Kansas City, Missouri.
“I grew up around the homebuilt helicopter crowd. I attended the Experimental Aircraft Association Airventure Fly In with my father every year from 1981 to 1993. My career in airport engineering and planning was fueled by wanting to provide safe facilities for those people who wanted so desperately to fly that they built their own aircraft.” – Jeff
Jeff has been an author since 2008. His short stories and novels all include elements of his small town, big town, and city experiences – even the ringing of a Taco Bell bell.
“It’s fairly easy to write something that makes people sad. It’s nearly as simple to write something that brings people to anger. The first John Wick film does both in its first ten minutes. It’s difficult to write stories that make people laugh. It’s damn near impossible to write a passage or story that inspires people to think — that’s why I just try for humor.” – Jeff
Jeff currently resides with his wife and five cats in Lawrence, Kansas.
